Born in Yogyakarta Indonesia as the second youngest of seven, Hery is of Javanese ethnicity. His involvement with performing arts started when he was in High school, in which he took drama as his extracurricular. In his Senior high school, he was cast as the leading role in a play but the show was canceled by the principal later on, which dashed his aspiration as an actor.
His interest in acting resurfaced again later on in his life in New Zealand when at 35 he landed a role as an extra in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, 'The Witch and the Wardrobe' (2005).
He moved to Perth Western Australia in 2008 and gained some extra/featured-extra roles in several films. In 2004 he was cast in an ensemble role in the musical 'Merry Go Round'. Then he attended an acting class with NIDA, Perth Film School, and Ali Roberts Studio, while still working on some short films and video clips.
