Theatre John has worked in all professional theatres around NZ in such plays as: Single Spies. Stop the World I want to Get Off (Lead). Godspell. Midsummer Nights Dream. The Boyfriend. Comedians. School for Scandal. Privates on Parade. Robin Hood. Glide Time. Othello. Cider with Rosie. Hedda Gablar. The Cherry Orchard. The Beggars Opera. Love on the Dole. The Apple Tree. Victorian Music Hall. Measure for Measure. A Lot of Nonsense.. JOHN A GIVINS Acting since a very young child Johnny has spent a lifetime performing both on stage, in front of the camera, and behind the camera. After initially training as a foundation member of Theatre Corporate with Raymond Hawthorne, he worked at Court Theatre and The Mercury theatre and with TVNZ drama. Johnny joined the TVNZ Avalon Production department and worked on a wide variety of studio and location productions becoming a leading Drama director and Producer. He has directed a number of television dramas including Country GP and Seeker drama series episodes, and gained a Best Drama Director nomination in that year’s GOFTA awards. In subsequent years, he directed many episodes of the pioneering Open Home drama series and became producer of the successful Kaleidoscope arts documentary series. He also produced and/or directed numerous productions such as the 1989 Benson & Hedges Fashion Design Awards, RTR Countdown, Laughinz and 3.45 Live children’s show, Queer Nation, the Hero Parade, B&B and Shortland Street. Johnny established his own production company Livingstone Productions and produced and directed TV many productions for TV3, TVNZ, Maori TV. After 10 years of leadership Johnny has left his position as Director of On Screen Acting at South Seas Film and Television School. He has taken roles in several of the student final projects gaining awards in international student film festivals. Recently he has revisiting his theatre acting with Te Pou Maori Theatre Company. He recently appeared in the Great American Scream (Albert Belz) as Grandpa, and Arthur in Unseasonal Fall of Snow (Gary Henderson)
