A charismatic and jovial spirit, Joel Drabble is an accomplished young actor based in the Gold Coast of Australia. In recent years, Joel has begun taking on a number of leading roles. In the independent feature, Chasing Lemons by Cannes Indie Award-Winning Director, Savanna Crasto, he plays the caring and high spirited outcast, Monroe, a tall poppy in a field of short ones. Someone who is constantly cut down - though you wouldn’t know it with the way he brightens the world for those who surround him. In the soon to be released short film, Flesh and Ivory, he takes on the role of the downtrodden school kid, William, who searching for his place in the world. And in his most recent short, Goodbye Spy, Joel plays the romantic lead, Roger, a spy who is spending the night with his one true love before setting out on a dangerous mission. They play, joke and argue all before saying what could very well be their final goodbye. During a 20 Week Acting Internship at the Warehouse Workshop in Helensvale, Queensland, Joel trained extensively alongside several notable coaches, including Emmy nominated Casting Director, Tom McSweeney, Screen Acting Coach, Phil Holder, American Dialect Coach, Gabrielle Rogers and Voice Coach, Dianne Eden. Since 2019 he has been training with internationally acclaimed Dialogue Coach, Kristina Sexton on his on-screen acting technique and works alongside her as a trusted teaching assistant in Queensland. Not one to learn only a single aspect of the job, Joel also holds his Cert III in Screen and Media from Coomera TAFE where he gained valuable technical and production skills for use in the entertainment industry. Joel’s acting career really began to take off after his cinematic debut as the Townsenes’ Radio Man in the AACTA Award-winning feature film, Danger Close: Battle of Long Tan. Since then, he has appeared in numerous films including, Trippin’, Co-Stars, Dreamr, and Friends in the Field which won the award for Best Film at the OSC Film Festival in 2021. Joel has also had the pleasure of playing some smaller speaking roles in big name productions such as Baz Luhrmann’s film, Elvis and the Disney+ series, Nautilus. Joel’s charisma, charm and warmth allow him to play anything from the soulful heartthrob to the cheery adventurer out on a mission. When he isn’t preparing for his next project, Joel can be found training at the gym, rock climbing, go-karting, snowboarding and ice skating. Joel’s artistic outlets outside of acting extend to drawing, painting, and creating artwork - including his own clothing designs. Joel strives to always give 110% in everything he does. He believes that the joy of the craft is what keeps an artist there, and when that joy is gone, they should step back and make space for those who still have it. Joel enjoys being around people who both challenge and encourage him to work towards his full potential. Honesty and respect are his most valued principles and Joel will always give space to people around him. He believes that respect should be shown to everyone and actively surrounds himself with people who hold the same ideals.
