Karen known as Kaz was born during a snowstorm in the NSW country town of Cowra, she grew up in Sydney and the Blue Mountains. Art, poetry, music, nature and sport were creative outlets and escapes from the beautiful chaos of being one of seven kids. Her passion for theatre ignited when she saw her first play as a child, instantly captivated by its' ability to evoke feeling and connection with the audience she followed her heart and eventually enrolled at EORA Indigenous College of Performing Arts in Redfern. In 2003 she was awarded the State Medal for first place along with her Cert 3. in Theatre Performance and Practices. After graduating she performed in Sydney Festival's "Eora Crossing," dir. Wesley Enoch and later immersed herself in a Bachelor of Fine Arts-Acting at QUT, recommended to her by alumni Wayne Blair. She studied theatre and screen acting, dance, voice, movement, stand up comedy and the Eric Morris technique derived from the Stanislavsky method. Working alongside various directors, coaches, dance, voice and movement teachers she absorbed many techniques she utilises daily. She graduated with the lead role of May Daniels in "Once in a Lifetime," dir. by Don Finn, husband of the late Mali Finn who cast Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslett in Titanic. Kaz starred in almost every scene of the play which gave her insight into the stamina required for the stage and helped solidify her American accent. This remains one of her favourite theatre roles to date. Kaz has worked with Australian and international Directors in theatre, film, television, commercials, physical theatre, voice overs, as well as corporate presenting work. She teaches Screen Acting classes at The Warehouse Workshop on the Gold Coast, where she is an ongoing student under the guidance of the brilliant Tom McSweeney of McSweeney Newman Casting. Her passion for acting, storytelling and the arts is driven by the positive impact and ripple effect a truthful performance can have on others, providing a sense of connection in a world where so many feel isolated and alone. Her favourite acting quote: "Acting is a spiritual quest to touch human beings," Larry Moss. Collaborating with like-minded creatives on compelling projects that tell stories of growth through adversity and the strength of the human spirit excites her. She lives an active healthy lifestyle, loves yoga, meditating, reading, writing, traveling, horse and motorbike riding and spending time by the water with family and friends. She is a dedicated Mum to three amazing kids who keep her on her toes, make her laugh and teach her most about life, humanity, truth, love and kindness. She is an advocate for the prevention and awareness of domestic and family violence in Australia, has recently spoken on a panel for DVIG and starred in short film, 'Shackled' for NFP Charity RizeUp in 2024. She is passionate about supporting Indigenous communities and culture in Australia and looks forward to contributing more in this space in the coming years. Reviews: “Stella T.
