Tawhao is in his first year of secondary school (2026) and attends Ngā Puna o Waiōrea rumaki (total immersion unit) at Western Springs College. He is a fluent Māori speaker and confident kapa haka performer. He is athletically talented, playing rugby league in the winter, softball in the summer and paddling waka ama year-round. He has a strong interest in basketball, has played competitive netball and is also a confident swimmer. He enjoys all outdoor pursuits including kayaking, abseiling and zip lining.
