Julia Rose (Julz) Cukrov is an Australian actress and writer. Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia on 2 May 1985. Her father, Darko Cukrov, was a business owner and contractor, while her mother, Jacqueline Beatrice Cukrov (nee Tapper), was a homemaker. Through her father, she is of Croatian descent and through her mother New Zealand descent. Julz is the eldest of two children and has a younger sister. She lives in Sydney and has been acting since the age of 11. Inspired to take up acting after seeing Sharon Stone in her powerful potency in the The Quick and the Dead a 1995 American Revisionist Western film directed by Sam Raimi. Stone played the role of Ellen in the film, a female gunslinger and fighter who rides into a small, dingy and depressing prairie town with a secret as to her reason for showing up. "I was completely enthralled and enamoured. This character Ellen embodied the female empowered force I wanted to be when I grew up. She was strong, assertive and empowered yet, deeply rich and compassionate and inherently vulnerable with and in her sexuality. After watching that film, I decided there and then that I wanted to be an actress and set about learning how to be a powerful force like that and be the best that I could be and succeed against all odds." She studied at The Actors College of Theatre and Television (ACTT) (now Academy of Film, Theatre and Television), NIDA Open Program and trained in Stanislavski Method Acting at Acting World in Sydney, contemporary vocal performance at WAAPA in Perth, The London Academy of Media, Film and Television, Howard Fine Acting Studio and with US celebrity dialect/vocal coach Bob Corff in Los Angeles. She has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and History and a double Masters in International Law and International Relations from The University of Western Australia (UWA). She speaks Croatian and Italian (conversationally) and trained in singing and dancing. She played the flute and was in a junior concert band as a child and teen. In film, she has appeared in independent low-budget features Deadcat, Crush and Two Fists One Heart. In television, she has appeared in the Derryn Brown Show in the United Kingdom. She has written both an original screenplay and web-series and aims to shoot and produce both of these independently in 2026.
