He spent five years as a series regular on the Australian drama Neighbours, portraying Chris Pappas—the show’s first ongoing gay male character. His performance earned a 2012 TV Week Logie nomination for Most Popular New Talent, as well as a 2014 Soap Extra Award for Most Topical Storyline. That same year, he accepted Neighbours’ Inside Soap Award for Best Daytime Soap in London. James has since appeared in Playing For Keeps (Network Ten), Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries (Seven), and the feature The Slaughterhouse Killer. In 2022, he added the Stan feature Darklands and Netflix’s Surviving Summer to his credits. He also has a strong love of theatre, performing in productions such as Flame Trees by Wayne Tunks and Last Call by Bill Ten Eyck and Christine Sinclair at Melbourne’s La Mama Theatre. Beyond acting, James works in filmmaking. He produced and directed his first short film, Someone Else (2014), through his company Standing Man. The film premiered internationally at the San Diego Film Festival. His additional producing credits include M.A.N.S. and One With The Lot. He has also written, produced, directed, and starred in a trilogy of commercials for eiengineering, aired nationally on the WIN Network. In 2015, James traveled to Iceland to host Budget Backpacker, a travel documentary by New York–based Urban Fiasco, exploring affordable travel along the island’s south coast. James has trained extensively with renowned acting coaches, including Howard Fine and David Coury, and is proudly represented by Ignite Elite Artists.
