Michael Allen is a grounded and versatile Australian screen and stage actor with a strong, intelligent presence and a long professional history across television, film, theatre, opera, commercials, voice-over and live performance. He is especially suited to roles requiring authority, dry humour, emotional restraint, practical competence, moral complexity and men who know more than they say. Notable screen credits include Stateless, McLeod’s Daughters, The Boys Are Back, Last Ride, Opal Dream, Maslin Beach, The Marriage of Figaro and Crooked. His commercial and short-form work includes campaigns and projects for The Bend Motorsport Park, Motor Accident Commission, RAA, SA Health, Back to Work SA and West End Beer. Michael also has extensive theatre and live-performance experience, including work with Bakehouse Theatre, Magpie Theatre Company, State Opera South Australia and Opera Australia. Trained at the Adelaide Centre for the Performing Arts, Michael also brings training in Laban/Malmgren movement psychology and Dr Robert Marchand’s Character-Based Improvisation. Alongside his acting career, he has completed a PhD and MPhil in performance-related anthropology, deepening his work in character, text, performance research, ethnodrama, digital performance and audience relationship. Special skills: Improvisation, professional voice-over, movement psychology / character analysis, livestream and broadcast production, motorbike riding, violin, lawn bowls, construction, cabinetmaking, landscaping and stage technician experience.
