Notes

Thuso Lekwape was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He lived there till he was 14 years old. He speaks four languages; English, Tswana, Zulu and Venda. In 2008 he was offered the opportunity to study in Australia. His love for acting and his ambition to succeed in this profession grew in high school. He won the ‘Hugo Weaving’ prize for drama at the International Grammar School in Sydney. In 2011 his solo performance was accepted into “Onstage”, the NSW high school showcase for talented young actors. After high school he auditioned for the National Institute for Dramatic Art (NIDA), the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and the West Australian Association of Performing Arts (WAAPA). He was accepted into all three but chose NIDA. Thuso has recently appeared in “In the Blood”, by Pulitzer winning playwright Susan Lori Parks, directed by Dominic Mercer. He has also worked with directors Tom Wright, Jeff Janisheski and Adam Rapp. During his time at NIDA he has appeared in music videos and short films. He has also contributed voice over, poetry readings, narration and translation for the ABC’s Radio National, working with Walkley Award winning producer/journalist Sharon Davis. He has a great passion for music and dancing. He is a soccer fanatic and would love to travel the world acting and performing. His role models include Nelson Mandela and Sidney Poitier.
