Notes

Jeffrey Liu is a recording artist, songwriter and actor. As a musician, Jeffrey dreams of penning radio hits as a songwriter and advocating for the queer Chinese-Australian experience through his artist project JËVA. In 2015 Jeffrey undertook two years of training at WAAPA, studying contemporary music to develop his artistry. Since releasing his debut pop EP ‘Typhoon’ in late 2021, JËVA has accrued over 100k streams on Spotify as an Independent artist, sold out his headline show at The Vanguard Sydney and has played to a crowd of thousands at Mardi Gras Fair Day ‘22 and World Pride ’23. Known for his charismatic stage presence, Jeffrey was scouted by Ra Chapman to play the role of Kim Han (a K-Pop Star) in her Patrick White Playwright Award winning play K-Box to which made his acting debut in the critically acclaimed Malthouse Theatre production in 2022. In 2023, Jeffrey made his musical theatre debut with the star studded cast of the ‘The Lucky Country’ with Hayes Theatre Co and joined the cast of Miss Peony for the Belvoir St Theatre national tour shortly after. REVIEWS from K-Box Liu is charismatic, too – nailing the pop intervention with the energy of a bottled genie released and suffusing the role with insistent melancholy thereafter. - The Age ★★★★ a charismatic performance by Liu, befitting a rock idol - ArtsHub Liu’s flamboyant performance is a lot of fun - The Guardian The performances here are absolutely spot on; a four-person cast that expertly dance around each other with conviction and a deep understanding of their characters - Time Out ★★★★ The four-person cast is difficult to fault, all bringing their own talents to their respective characters. Jeffrey Liu is not so much the comedic relief character in the play, instead acting as the sole source of pure joy in the play, featuring his singing chops in some fabulously bombastic K-Pop numbers. - Beat The four actors deliver strong performances, with newcomers Qian and Liu more than capable of keeping up with the incredible Maude Davey and Syd Brisbane. - My Melbourne Arts It wasn’t long before Liu impressed audiences with his stage presence, and his excellent vocal runs with renditions of BTS’ ‘Fake Love’ and Rain’s ‘Love Song’. I almost forgot I was at a play and thought I really was at a K-Pop concert for a moment. - Lilithia Reviews
