Marie-Jo Orbase is a Filipino multi-disciplinary artist who is trained across acting, directing, producing and writing. A graduate in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Sydney, MoJo is currently honing her craft through a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Stage & Screen) at Actors Centre Australia. Her theatrical journey has seen her inhabit roles such as Suffolk in Shakespeare's "Henry VI, Part 1", Leontes in "The Winter’s Tale”, Virginia in ‘Ruben Guthrie’, Margot Mason in ‘Female of the Species’, and various characters in Brecht’s “The Measures Taken”. Throughout her years at ACA she has had the pleasure of working with some of the best in the industry focusing on voice, text, movement, accent, and stagecraft. She is extremely dedicated to mastering her craft and is constantly expanding her skills on stage and screen.
Dedicated to representing her migrant experience, and tired of never seeing authentic roles made for women of colour like herself, she started her own production company, ZORA Productions. Here, she wrote, produced and performed in the short film ‘Abjection’ (2022), and also her play ‘Birds and the Besties’(2024), which was presented at Rafferty’s Theatre at the National Theatre of Parramatta. She continues to write, pursue and act in work that emboldens and empowers systemically excluded voices.
