Awards: Canberra Critics Award for Excellence in Acting 2022 for portrayal of A in Three Tall Women, Jacques in As You Like It, and Lockstock in Urinetown. Ovations for Best Leading Actress as Ruth Steiner in Collected Stories. Best Independent Production for Collected Stories at ACT Hub. 2023 Karen Vickery has been awarded the Canberra Critics Circle Award for acting as Violet Weston in August: Osage County, and for Mary Betterton and the ensemble of Pigeonhole Theatre's production of Playhouse Creatures. Canberra Critics Award for her portrayal of Patricia Highsmith in Joanna Murray-Smith’s Switzerland after rave reviews. Karen won the Canberra Area Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Anna Akhmatova in The Woman in the Window by Alma de Groen. She has also received the Canberra Critics Circle Award for her direction of Everyman Theatre's production of the Normal Heart and for her direction of Brighton Beach Memoirs for Canberra Rep. Karen has many credits over the years on stage, screen and radio including corporate work. Credits listed on this page are a small fraction of her professional career. Karen was a lecturer at NIDA for over a decade and is founder of Chaika Theatre. Chaika is part of the first independent theatre in the ACT, ACT Hub and Karen is proud to be a founding director.
